Obituary for Jordan Jeffrey Arakelian

Jordan Jeffrey Arakelian
It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of our precious son, Jordan Jeffrey Arakelian, 24, of Simsbury, on Saturday, June 30, 2018. He was born November 18, 1993 in Palm Springs, CA, the beloved son of Jeffrey Paul Arakelian of Sarasota, FL and Lisa (Bell) Gray of Simsbury. Jordan was a graduate of the Simsbury High School Class of 2013 and was employed by Benny's in Simsbury. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping, running and biking. Jordan also loved mixed martial arts, movies (especially Star Wars and Lord of the Rings) and video games.

Jordan had an intense love for his family. In addition to his parents, Jordan is survived by his two “little bros”, Austin and Adam Arakelian, his step-father, Gary Gray, and maternal grandfather, Edward Bell, all of Simsbury; his maternal grandmother, Nancie Shaw, of Avon; his step-sisters, Danielle Gray of Prospect, and Tammy Gray and her wife Olga of Waterbury; his step-brother, John Gray and his wife Elsie of Portland and six nieces and nephews, whom he adored. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Archie and Lucy Arakelian.

Jordan was a beautiful soul whose life was cut short by the horrors of drug abuse. He struggled with the demons in his mind that drove him to harm himself for nearly nine years. His loved ones are grateful that he is finally at peace and no longer suffering, but will miss him fiercely until the day they can meet again. They will miss his child-like view of life, his smile, and his daily “I love you”s. They will miss his hugs, his laughter, and his kindness. Jordan was our son, our brother, our nephew, our uncle, our grandson, our co-worker, and our friend. Jordan was an extraordinary human being with a compassion for others that knew no boundaries. His family wants others to know these things because Jordan wasn’t just a drug addict, he was an incredible person who was taken too soon because of the terrible co-dependent diseases of addiction and emotional disorders. They want others to know his story so that they will fight for change so that more families don’t have to bury their children and young adults.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 10th at 5:00 PM at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. His family will receive friends prior to the service, starting at 2:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to https://ifundraise.nami.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.event&eventID=505&referrer=WEBTD and https://donate.drugfree.org/site/Donation2;jsessionid=00000000.app358a?df_id=2120&2120.donation=form1&mfc_pref=T&NONCE_TOKEN=8276E10612E29EC6DC5C5624488B2CC3#/Donate?embed=true&standalone=true&selectors=true
