Hazel Edna Schurmann Cooke
Nov. 27, 1928-October 13th 2018

Hazel Cooke passed away peacefully on October 13th and is survived by her beloved soul mate, Harry, best friend, and husband of 67 years. Harry and Hazel met at Bantam Lake in 1951 and were inseparable ever since. Hazel and Harry loved the outdoors and with their family enjoyed camping, biking, hiking and canoeing together. They also enjoyed an epic 12,000 mile trip to Alaska exploring the United States and Canada along the way.

Hazel was born and grew up in Hartford and worked at the Telephone Company until she married Harry in 1951. They raised four children, Nancy, Richard, Robert, and Dale at the home they built together in Simsbury.

Hazel is survived by her husband Harry, Nancy and her husband William Bunnell, granddaughter Heather and her husband Brandon Munson and great-grandchildren, Isaac, Levi and Zuzu. Richard and his wife Elaine Cooke, grandchildren, Jesse and his wife Devlin and Jenna. Robert and his wife Wendy Cooke, and grandchildren, Jason and partner Lindsey Holcomb, Melissa and fiancé Adam Freeman, Connor, and step children Ronilynn, Shanna, Shelbi, Austin, Dale and his fiancé, Carol Moore.

Hazel had a close relationship with her sisters Lucille Strom, and deceased sisters Muriel Schiebel and Lois Barlow as well as her mother Edna Schuurman. They all set the example of the precious value of sisterhood, family love, compassion, and always with a sense of adventure.

Hazel was an avid gardener, quilter and had a love for nature. She created extraordinary quilts and gifted them to her family and donated many to needy children.

Hazel was a Christian and had a deep and profound relationship with Jesus. She was a truly devoted, loving and compassionate wife, grandmother, and friend to so many people.
