Obituary for Assunta DiTommaso (Scoccitti)

Assunta “Dora” DiTommaso, of Avon, beloved mother and nonna, passed away peacefully November 5, 2018. Assunta was born May 12, 1931, to parents Franco and Francesca Scoccitti of Poggio Umbricio, Providence of Teramo, Italy. She migrated to the United States in 1958 and proudly became a US citizen in September 1987.
Dora was a nurturing, kind, loving woman with an unwavering Catholic faith. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening; but above all she loved her family. It was through cooking that she best expressed her love and service to others. Dora retired from Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc. in 1993, after 30 years of dedicated service. A longtime member of the Prince Thomas of Savoy Society Women's Auxiliary, she actively participated at “the Italian club.” Surrounded by this tightly knit community of Italian immigrants, they became her family here in the US. Dora will always be remembered for her nurturing spirit - cooking, baking, and crocheting for those who were sick or in mourning; as well as those celebrating major life events. Her famous crostata is loved and remembered by many.
Dora was predeceased by her beloved husband, Pietro DiTommaso. She is survived by her four loving, devoted daughters and four sons-in-law: Ann and Don Ross, Franca DiTommaso and Barry Demchak, Dina DiTommaso and David Smith, and Lisa and Jason Farren as well as by four cherished grandchildren: Olivia Smith, Sophia Smith, Sean Farren and Max Farren.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Thursday, November 8th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Ann, 289 Arch Road in Avon at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 9th with burial to follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Dora’s memory to the Prince Thomas of Savoy Society Women’s Auxiliary Scholarship Fund.
