Obituary for Anne Burke

Anne Theresa (Briggs) Burke, 79, of Simsbury, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 16th. She was born January 23, 1939, in Hartford, daughter of the late Robert and Anne (Donahue) Briggs of West Hartford. She was a graduate of Mt. Saint Joseph High School in West Hartford, where she was class president both freshman and senior year, and Bay Path Junior College in Longmeadow, MA, where she studied medical secretarial science. She retired from The Hartford after 16 years in data processing, and served on the Board of Directors of The Knoll at Sand Hill condo association for 5 years. Anne was an avid and loyal Red Sox fan, enjoyed tap and line dancing, and loved going to Starbucks for peppermint lattes, something she did almost every day since they opened in Simsbury. She loved animals, was a member of the Humane Society and the ASPCA, and lovingly cared for her dogs and cats throughout her life.
She is survived by her two daughters, Anne Kerr and her husband Paul of San Francisco, CA; Karyn Dufresne and her wife Dusti of Greenfield, MA; two grandchildren, Mary Childs of Boston, MA and Catherine Childs of San Francisco, CA; her sister, Joan Briggs of Newington, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Carole Kasper and Marilyn O’Brien. Anne was a genuine and sweet soul with an often silly sense of humor. She was deeply loved and will be missed.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 23rd at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111. The Vincent Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements.
