Catherine Ann (Wagner) Nardone passed away peacefully after a long illness at the age of 72, on February 9, 2019, in Simsbury, Connecticut. Born and raised in Depew, New York, Cathy was a longtime resident of Simsbury. Cathy was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner at St. Mary’s Church. Her strong faith sustained her throughout her life and illness. Cathy delighted in being surrounded by family. She was a devoted mother of five children and an adoring grandmother to ten grandchildren. She was immensely proud, endlessly patient, and unlimited in her capacity to love. Becoming a grandmother was her greatest joy and she traveled around the country, and across the globe, to spend time with her grandchildren. They adored her equally and “Grandma” was part of countless birthday parties, holiday celebrations, walks on the beach, carousel rides, and trips to the zoo. Cathy also shared her life with cherished friends who remained an integral part of her support system to the end.
Cathy earned an R.N. from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, New York in 1966. After working as a nurse in Olean, New York, she continued her career as a pediatric nurse in Simsbury, Connecticut. For some time she was a school nurse and served as the President of the Simsbury Schools Nurses’ Association. She eventually earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2001, from the University of Hartford. She spent the last 14 years of her career as an oncology nurse at Hartford Hospital. Cathy felt a great sense of purpose and calling to the profession of nursing. She was skilled and compassionate and often expressed what an honor it was to care for her patients and their families. She considered herself blessed to work alongside many wonderful colleagues.
Cathy’s legacy lives on in her five children and ten grandchildren: daughter Mary Beth Conley, her husband Jerry, and their three sons - Devin, Christian, and Patrick of West Simsbury, Connecticut; daughter Natalie Sklenka, husband Marc, and their two children - Carson and Ashlyn of Canton, Connecticut; daughter Juliet Breton, husband Steven, and their three children - Taylor, Kaitlyn, and Daniel of Haymarket, Virginia; daughter Andrea Nardone and her two sons - Zachary and Jacob of Holden, Massachusetts; and son Justin Nardone of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. athy is survived by three siblings: brother Norman Wagner of Marienville, Pennsylvania; brother John Wagner of Lebanon, Kentucky, and sister Marian Nemmer of Depew, New York.
