Obituary for Melvin J. Thompson Sr.

Melvin James Thompson, Sr., 87, of Suffield, husband of the late Lorraine (Bosse) Thompson, died Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. He will now finally be reunited with the love of his life, Lorraine. He was born August 18, 1931 in Portland, ME, son of the late Robert Howard and Marguerite (McLeod) Thompson and had lived in Tariffville for over 50 years prior to moving to the Suffield House. Melvin was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Thompson was a Supervisor at Combustion Engineering for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Combustion Engineering Retiree’s Group and the Simsbury Codgers. Melvin was a devoted fan of UCONN Women’s and Men’s Basketball.
He is survived by his children, Melvin J. Thompson, Jr. and his wife Mary of Waterbury, Peter Thompson and his wife Trish of Westfield, MA, Sheryl Thompson of Enfield and Sandra Gibeault and her husband David of Waldorf, MD; his sister, Patricia Fahey of Enfield, seven grandchildren, Sara, Kristen, Julie, Melissa, Paul, Kyle and Kevin, two great grandchildren Caroline and Ingrid and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Lorraine, he was predeceased by his sister, Florence and his brothers, William, Robert and Thomas. The family would like to extend a grateful thank you to the caregivers and staff at the Suffield House and Davita Dialysis for the exceptional care given to Melvin.
His family will receive friends at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Thursday, February 21st from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a funeral service starting at 1:00 PM. Burial with military honors will follow in the Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
