Obituary for Madelyn G. Valence

Madelyn (Galvin) Valence, 87, of Simsbury, beloved wife of Richard E. Valence, died Friday, May 24, 2019 at Meadow Brook of Granby. She was born March 12, 1932 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Carolan) Galvin and had lived in Naugatuck prior to moving to Simsbury 62 years ago. Mrs. Valence was an Executive Assistant at Cigna for over 35 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury, a Camp Fire Girl leader, and was greatly supportive of her family in all their endeavors. Madelyn sang in the trio The Three Honeys as a girl and performed on the Ted Mack amateur hour. While with her husband, who was in the Air Force and stationed in Erding, Germany, Madelyn enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. Madelyn also knit prayer shawls for the sick and made rosary beads for donation to those incarcerated. Madelyn has always been a loving source of strength and caring for her family, and she will be remembered by all who knew her as kind, warm, generous, and thoughtful.
In addition to her husband of almost 66 years, she is survived by her daughter, Michelle Mortimer and her husband Michael of Bristol; her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Brett Mortimer; her brother, Ed Galvin of Woodbury, as well niece Liz, and nephews Chris and Will.
Friends may call it the Vincent Funeral Home 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, on Wednesday, May 29th from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery. Please visit Madelyn’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
