Obituary for Matthew Heagney
Matthew “Matt” Heagney, of Simsbury CT, loving husband of Margaret, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 27, 2019. Born in Walnut Creek, CA on September 24, 1960, Matt was the son of the late Jean and Jack Heagney. Matt was a graduate of Simsbury High School and attended Sacred Heart University. Matt married his beloved "Marty" on November 8, 1986. He had an illustrious career in the insurance and reinsurance industry as a Property Underwriter. His career began with The Hartford, then continued on to National Reinsurance, Nac Reinsurance, XL Reinsurance, and finally Arch Insurance as an Assistant Vice President of Property Underwriting.
Matt is survived by his loving wife, Marty and his son, Quinn; brother John and his wife Gaylan of Avon, CT; brother Robert and his wife Barbara of Callawassie, SC; and sister Diane Brittell of Simsbury CT. He is also survived by his niece Kathleen Paranthaman and her husband Ganesh and son Kaavayen, his nephews Sean Brittell, Trevor Brittell and his wife Kate and their children Cara and Jack; John Heagney and his wife Liz and daughter Sydney; Walker Heagney and his wife Abbey and their children Finn and Kaelyn; Michael Heagney and his wife Nicole; Addison Heagney and Emmet Heagney.
Matt volunteered his time with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. He also became very involved with Simsbury youth sports coaching both youth hockey and little league teams. Team parties were always a favorite part of Matt's coaching seasons. Matt also served on the board of Simsbury Youth Hockey, where he became a catalyst for improvements in the program. After many years of marriage, Matt became a father when his blessed son Quinn arrived in 2004. Matt was thrilled that Quinn was following in his footsteps as a San Francisco Forty Niners and Giants fan. Nothing was more important to Matt than his immediate and extended family. He also connected with and touched many lives both in Simsbury and elsewhere.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Friday, August 2nd from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 3rd at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road in West Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.
