Obituary for Joanna Vincent

Joanna (Quinn) Vincent, 97, of Simsbury, beloved wife of the late Elmer Vincent, died Thursday, September 19, 2019. She was born July 30, 1922 in Simsbury, daughter of the late Thomas Charles and Laura (Welton) Quinn and had lived in Simsbury her entire life. Joanna was a graduate of Simsbury High School and the Morse Business College of Hartford. She proudly served during World War II in the United States Navy (WAVES), with the Bureau of Ships in Washington, DC. Mrs. Vincent was employed as a secretary for Westminster School, Pattison & Company, Inc. and Vincent Funeral Home, prior to her retirement in 1978. Joanna was an avid basketball and tennis player, golfer and an accomplished bowler. She played on the varsity basketball team for Simsbury High School, and was a member of the Simsbury Women's Golf League, Simsbury Seniors Bowling League, Simsbury Historical Society, a 75 year member of Tomalonis-Hall Post #84 American Legion, a member of the Farmington Valley and National A.A.R.P. and a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Simsbury.

Joanna enjoyed spending winters at The Pars in Naples, FL and participated in golf, tennis, and bocce well into her 80’s. A diehard Red Sox fan for life, she always supported her family as a faithful fan attending Simsbury American Legion baseball games at Memorial Field.

She is survived by three sons, former First Selectman Thomas E. Vincent and his wife Dr. Cheryl Vincent of Simsbury, Timothy P. Vincent and Kellie Allen-Wells of Avon and Anthony L. Vincent and Deborah Vogue of Liverpool, NY; 12 grandchildren; George Cunningham of Springfield, MA, Priscilla and Vincent Purpura of Hopkinton, MA, Thomas B. Vincent and Emily Hoffman Vincent of Simsbury, Andrew Vincent of Charlotte, NC, Katherine Vincent Coderre and Jon of Canton, Kory Vincent and Jennifer Vibert Vincent of Canton, Kelsey Wells O’Connor and Mike of Greenwich, Jeffrey J. Vincent of Avon, Christopher J. Vincent of Tampa, FL, Tyler A. and Rebecca Vincent of Baldwinsville, NY, Joshua and Jumi Lee Sohn of Saudi Arabia and Colin Sohn of Nantucket, MA as well as 7 great grandchildren, Samantha, Vinnie and Charlie Purpura, Will, Ben, Grace and Trevor Vincent and several nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Besides her husband Elmer she was predeceased by a sister, Jeannette Ryan and a special friend Carlton “Sandy” Sanderson of Springfield, MA. The Vincent Family would like to thank Patti Bahre Buckley of Canton for her love, care, and devotion in the care of our Mother for the past 3 years.

Her family will receive friends at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Sunday, September 22nd from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Funeral will be Monday, September 23rd, 9:15 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Simsbury. Burial with military honors will follow in the Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Connelly Residence, ?
