Obituary for Julia M. Bonczek (Dubiel)

Julia (Dubiel) Bonczek, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the age of 96. She was married for over 49 years to Raymond F. Bonczek, “Ray the Barber,” of Simsbury, CT. Ray and Julie, as everyone knew them, were inseparable until his passing in 2007.

Julie was born on May 27, 1923 in Avon, CT, one of ten children of the late Benedict and Agnes (Malecki) Dubiel. The family lived in Collinsville, CT. Julie graduated from Canton High School and attended Hillyer College in Hartford, CT. She worked at Dun & Bradstreet and later as the bookkeeper for the Simsbury Visiting Nurses Association.

She was National Duckpin Champion and enjoy bowling in ten pin leagues and would compete for high average. Julie was an avid and knowledgeable sports fan and a lifelong follower of the Red Sox, Patriots and UCONN Women’s basketball. She was an especially dedicated fan of her children and grandchildren, traveling around the Northeast to see them play tennis, basketball, football and lacrosse.

Julia was known for her loving and generous nature and had a kind word for everyone. Her door was always open, and she had a special drawer full of chocolates and candy bars to delight those with a sweet tooth. She had a sparkle in her bright blue eyes, a ready smile and a gentle manner that charmed everyone who met her. She was a woman of deep faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury.

Julie is survived by her three children: Paulette (Bonczek) Blackburn of Lewiston, ME, Barbara (Bonczek) Young and her husband, Vernon, of Rindge, NH, and John Bonczek and his wife, Cathy (Cosentini) of Stamford, CT. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, including Tyler Blackburn, Benjamin Blackburn, Colby Young, Trevor Young, Jessica (Young) Faustina, Jeremy Young, Peter Bonczek and Jamie Bonczek, and their respective spouses along 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Cecil (Dubiel) Folcik of Kensington, CT and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond F. Bonczek, her brothers and sisters: John Dubiel, George Dubiel, Frank Dubiel, Michael Dubiel, Victoria (Dubiel) Cooley, Jennie (Dubiel) Lipinski, Mary (Dubiel) Chludzinski, Madelyn Dubiel.

Her family will receive friends at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Friday, October 11th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral will be Saturday, October 12th, 9:15 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.
