It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of John on November 2, 2019, who after a courageous battle with loss and depression, chose to leave this life on his own terms. He was a young 53 years old, born in Simsbury, CT, grew up in Agawam, MA and eventually moved to Allston, MA. He was president of his class at Agawam High School and graduated from the University of Massachusetts. In his younger years, he expressed his creativity through video production and music, having formed his band, Buzz and the Assassins. He spent the later part of his life selling insurance and real estate. He was a versatile guitar player, an avid reader, a Templar Knight of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Brighton Elks Club. Most importantly, he was a loving father and leaves behind his beautiful children Nina and John. Sadly, he was recently predeceased by his fiancée and life companion Sophia Kakissis.

He is survived by his mother Irene Kelly and her husband Steve Marceno of Bradenton FL; his sister Paula Nowak and her husband Michael of Simsbury and their children Kelly Miller and her husband Stephen and their children Maeve and Finn, and Mason McFetridge and his wife Colleen; his brother Kevin and wife Anita of Colchester and their children Zak and Ryan; his brother Mark and wife Diane of N. Wales, PA and their children John and Mark; and his brother David and wife Judy of West Suffield and their children Jessica and Sean. He also leaves many cousins and friends, especially those loved ones in Boston, who have given their unconditional love and support throughout his young life. He was predeceased by his father William R. Kelly.

Service to honor his life will be conducted on Saturday, November 9, 2019. Calling hours will be held from 8:30 am to 9:30 at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, CT followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 AN St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, CT. Those who would like to console the family can also attend a gathering at the Maple Tree Cafe immediately following the service.
The Kelly Family would like to thank all their friends and family for their love and support during this difficult time. Please visit John’s “Book of Memories” at for online tributes.

Buzz, today was goodbye. Goodbye to our friend, our leader, our class president. We laughed and we cried as we spoke of the crazy stuff, the funny stuff and all of the things we did with you back in the day. You always made us laugh and never said an unkind word about anyone. I held myself together until our friend, Chris McCarthy, sang you the most amazing song. Her voice rang throughout the church and all the way up to heaven. Her beautiful voice brought me right back to 1984. I cried, then I smiled and I knew you were looking down on us and smiling right back. ❤️

This tree will grow with the memory of a loving friend and longtime comrade who was also a loyal brother and fellow musical listener and traveler; and for whom the music -- as well as the kindness and the laughter -- was never too loud.
