John Pappalardo, 76, of Avon, beloved husband of Toni (Markette) Pappalardo, died Monday, December 9, 2019 at his home. He was born January 30, 1943 in Hartford, son of the late Sebastian and Maria (Latina) Pappalardo and had lived in West Hartford prior to moving to Avon many over twenty years ago. John was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Army as a Platoon Leader. He was honorably discharged with a Silver Star for valor and the Purple Heart after being seriously wounded in three different assaults during a six hour period. He attended Norwich University in Vermont having received his Bachelors Degree in Business and after recovering from his war injuries, went on to obtain his Masters Degree in Accounting from the University of Hartford. Mr. Pappalardo retired in 2004 with the title of Director from the Travelers Insurance Group and Citigroup after his 31 year career which spanned from corporate finance to human resources and payroll. He was a member of the Gildo Consolini VFW Post #3272 in Avon. John served as Treasurer of the St. Francis Woman’s Auxiliary, becoming the first male officer of the auxiliary. John enjoyed spending time with Toni at their home on Cape Cod and traveling with his sons.
In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, he is survived by his two sons, John Pappalardo and his wife Jennifer of Chatham, MA and Mark Pappalardo and his wife Courtney of West Hartford; his sister, Tina Merz of West Hartford his grandchildren, Lila and Maria Pappalardo and Ashley and Ella Shaffer.
John’s family will receive friends at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Friday, December 13th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, December 14th, at St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant Street in West Hartford.
