Obituary for Lucinda "Cindy" Ash (Converse)

Lucinda “Cindy” Converse Ash, 94, of Simsbury, wife of the late Alfred Frank Ash, died Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at McLean in Simsbury. She was born February 8, 1925 in Washington, DC, daughter of the late Samuel Randall and Lucinda (Carpenter) Converse and had lived in Rye, NY prior to moving to Simsbury 14 years ago. Cindy was a graduate of Pace University, Class of 1980, and also had attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia where she made friends and felt an affinity for over the years. Mrs. Ash worked as an Executive Secretary for Continental Group Industries for many years and served several other employers prior to her retirement in the early 1990s. During her years in Rye she was a volunteer with the Stephen Ministries and a deacon at the Rye Presbyterian Church. She was active at McLean in Simsbury having been on the Board of the McLean Auxiliary and a gift shop volunteer and was a member of the Simsbury Women’s Club. Cindy enjoyed classical music along with her husband, an accomplished cellist, and attended the Hartford Symphony regularly. She was an avid reader with a curious mind and a talented bridge player, and having played piano and sung in the choir, was obviously an influence on two of her children who became musicians. She and Al loved visiting Monhegan Island, ME and Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada where they annually attended the Shaw Festival Theater. Cindy felt a strong love of history and family and of growing orchids-indoor plants adorned her home-but she was a person who nurtured in all ways. We will think of her every time we look at a field of clover, knowing she could spot the four-leafed ones faster than anyone else.

She is survived by her children, Daniel Ash and his wife Lorraine Zaranski-Ash of Ossining, NY, Elizabeth “Betsy” Ash and her husband Philip Doyle of Canton, Lucinda “Penny” Ash-Carter and her husband John Carter of La Mesa, CA, and Margaret “Daisy” Lisansky and her husband Eugene Lisansky of St. Petersburg, FL; four grandchildren, Sylvia Doyle of El Portal, CA, Randall Doyle of Seattle, WA, Lucinda Kate Carter of Nashua, NH, and Sarah Carter and her partner Jason Bass of Gresham, OR; great grandson, Barrett Bass and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two siblings, Anna Moore Klemeyer and Samuel Converse.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 7th at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Memorial donations may be made to the Hartford Symphony, HSO Development Department, 166 Capitol Ave., Hartford CT 06106 or to McLean, 75 Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT 06070.
