Obituary for Jerome F. Odlum, DMD

Jerome Francis Odlum, DMD, 74, of West Simsbury, beloved husband of Karen (Laubach) Odlum, died Thursday, February 27, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was born February 26, 1946 in West Hartford, son of the late George and Doreen (O’Leary) Odlum and had lived in Farmington prior to moving to West Simsbury 47 years ago. Jerome was a graduate of Trinity College, Class of 1968, and had received his Doctorate Degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Odlum had his practice in Simsbury for many years prior to his retirement and was a member of the Connecticut Dental Association. He was also a member of the Hartford Golf Club having held the fastest record swim time there and was proud to have played tennis with the great Arthur Ashe. Jerome was the President of the Prez Gang and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury. In addition to tennis and swimming, he enjoyed football, basketball and airplanes and later in life enjoyed the ability to relax and truly do nothing.

In addition to his loving wife of 47 years, he is survived by his son, Chris Odlum and his wife Lilian Freire of Simsbury; his daughter, Ashley Odlum of Brooklyn, NY; his siblings, Brian Odlum and his wife Janice of West Hartford, Brenda Daily of North Carolina, Judith Odlum and her husband William Pomery of North Carolina and Michael Odlum and his wife Pamela of New York and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother George Odlum.

Dr. Odlum’s family will receive friends at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Monday, March 9th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 10th at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road in West Simsbury. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111.
