Obituary for Archie J. Woodard

Archie J. Woodard, 85, of Burlington, died Wednesday, February 26, 2020. He was born November 20, 1934 in Bristol, son of the late Archie and Susan (Lefebvre) Woodard and had lived in Bristol and Burlington all of his life. Archie was a graduate of Central Connecticut State College having received his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a degree from Hartford State Poly Tech in Tool Design. Archie also served in the Connecticut State Guard. Mr. Woodard was the Engineering Director of Tool Design & Manufacturing for Pratt and Whitney. He devoted much of his life to the success of the company for 36 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Unionville and in his earlier years, President of the Edgewood Little League in Bristol. Archie enjoyed gardening at the Farmington Flats, was a participant and member of the Valley Fitness Gym in Unionville and was a large donor to the blood bank. He had a great love for God and Country, baseball, American history and had many friends at both church and the gym. Most of all was a loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by his three sons, William J. Woodard of Kingwood, TX, Fredrick Woodard of Milford, NH and Randy Woodard of Tampa, FL; his grandchildren, William J Woodard ll and his wife Mya Dee Woodard of Canton and Audrey Marie Woodard of Kingwood, TX; his great granddaughter, Rylie Mae Woodard; his sisters, Madelyn Politis of Farmington, Beverly Strong of Bristol and Susan Bilodeau of Colchester; his former wife, Nancy Abel Woodard of Dunedin, FL; former daughter-in-law, Hayley Manuel and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Marine PFC Frederick Woodard (18) and five sisters, Louise Goulet, Dorothy Gomes, Teresa Chapulis, Shirley Goulet and Charlotte Zapor.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 14th at St. Mary Star of the Sea, 145 Main Street in Unionville. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bristol.
