Richard George Adams, 90, beloved husband of Roberta (Hamilton) Adams, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was born November 12, 1930 in Unionville, son of the late Joseph A. and Edith I. (Rogers) Adams and had lived and raised his family in East Granby for many years. Richard lived his final years at the Hebrew Center in West Hartford for the long-term care of his struggle with dementia.
Richard began his career with Hobart as a service technician working his way into sales, eventually reaching the position of district manager for the North Haven branch prior to retiring in 1986. He was a veteran of the US Navy, as well as a member of Old St. Andrew’s Church, and the Masonic Lodge, formerly located in Granby. Richard enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden through the warm summers, reading, cooking, and baking the most delicious pastries. Following his retirement, Richard maintained a curiosity towards learning as he enjoyed studying various topics including religion and astronomy. He loved his 1940 Ford Pickup and enjoyed his many cats and dogs over the years, especially his dog Harley. He will be remembered as a quiet, loving, family man, but with a dry sense of humor that would always keep you smiling. Roberta was the light of his life and they had a true loving relationship through all their years together. Richard knew she was the one at first sight!
In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, he is survived by his son, Mark Adams, who resides at McLean’s in Simsbury; his daughter, Heidi Nielson and her husband Andy of Simsbury; his brothers, William Adams and Norman Adams and his wife Doris; his cherished grandsons, Ryan and Christian Nielson, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Carroll, and two brothers, Robert Adams and Donald Adams. His family would like to express their gratitude to the many nurses and doctors of both the Hebrew Center and St. Francis Hospital for the exceptional care they provided.
Private burial with military honors will be in Elmwood Cemetery in East Granby. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the Connecticut Humane Society. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements. Please visit Richard’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
