Obituary for Edmund "Colby" Vanderbeck

Edmund Colby Vanderbeck passed unexpectedly on December 18th, 2020. Known as Colby, he was born on February 2nd, 1992 in Teaneck, New Jersey. As a child, Colby and his family moved to Simsbury, Connecticut, where he grew to be a tremendous athlete, a loyal friend to many, and a gentle yet protective son and brother. While attending Simsbury High School, Colby played baseball and football for the Trojans and was selected as an All-Courant Athlete in both sports. Colby continued his passion for baseball at his Alma Mater, Bucknell University, playing as an outfielder, strong hitter and trusted teammate for the Bucknell Bison. He was also a loved member of the fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Colby’s larger-than-life demeanor contrasted his loving smile and off-the-field kind nature. He showed deep love for his family and friends, his dogs Erskine and Wallace, family trips to LBI, the Denver Broncos, the New York Yankees and attending UCONN basketball games with his friends Jon and Tommy.

Colby’s greatest gift of all was his bright light and love for his people. Colby's grand physical presence masked a sensitive soul and deep being who fought hard these last few years. We are forever grateful for each and every day we had with him.

Colby is dearly missed by his father Edmund, mother Lauren, brother Henry and sister Helena Vanderbeck of Simsbury, his maternal grandparents Gerald and Helen Romanowski, paternal grandfather Butch and his wife Marlee Vanderbeck, paternal grandmother Dorothy Vanderbeck, maternal aunt Dawn Brackpool and husband Carl, paternal uncle Brandt Vanderbeck and his wife Jamie and paternal uncle Frank Vanderbeck and wife Stacy, cousins Devon Svejcar and Travis Brackpool as well as a large extended family and the many lives he touched along his path. Rest easy Bubba.

In light of Covid-19, a family funeral will be held. A celebration of Colby’s life will be organized at a late date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Connor Scott Zieky Fund, https://www.csziekyfund.org/. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements.
