Mark K. Winter, 64, of Canton, beloved husband of Kathleen (Dutcher) Winter, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at his home. He was born April 24, 1956 in Bristol, son of the late Karl and Vivian (Conopask) Winter and had lived in Bristol all of his life prior to moving to Canton 8 years ago. Mark was a graduate of University of Lowell (now UMass Lowell), Class of 1978, having received his Bachelor Degree in Physics, minor in Geology. Mr. Winter was a Water Treatment Engineer for Evapco Products for many years and was previously employed by Clearwater-Dolphin Systems and Suisman and Blumenthal. He was a member of Saint Andrew Lutheran Church in Bristol, the Canton Land Trust and the CT Forest and Parks Association. Mark was an avid hiker, having been a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and the New Hampshire 4000 Footer Club. Mark was a loyal Dodgers fan his entire life. He loved many other outdoor activities including biking, kayaking and spending time at the beach, which carried through to creative endeavors such as landscape photography and outdoor inspired fine art.

When not spending weekends at their New Hampshire lake cottage, Mark enjoyed vacations with his wife; exploring bike trails in New England and Canada, beaches, waterways and mountain regions. He most enjoyed his time with his four grandchildren sledding, hiking, playing army men, reading stories and just being together.

In addition to his loving wife of 39 years, he is survived by his two sons, Samuel Winter and wife Sara of Bow, NH and Benjamin Winter and partner Jenny Sayasith of Danbury; his daughter, Elizabeth Winter and partner Daniel Massaro of Kennebunk, ME; his grandchildren, Nora Winter, Dominic and Vivian Massaro and Elin Winter; his brother, Craig Winter and wife Nancy of Burlington; his mother-in-law, Mary Dutcher of Bristol, brother-in-law William Dutcher, Jr. (Susan) of Bristol, sister-in-law Margaret Giordano of Oak Park, IL and his nephews Matthew, David, Zachary and Thomas. He was predeceased by his sister, Heidi Winter Smith, granddaughter, Edith Heidi Winter, father-in-law William Dutcher, Sr. and brother-in-law Jay Giordano.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, December 29th at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton. His family will receive friends prior to the service, starting at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canton Land Trust, P.O. Box 41, Canton Center, CT 06020 or to St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1125 Stafford Avenue, Bristol, CT 06010. Please visit Mark’s “Book of Memories” at for online tributes.
