Obituary for Thomas Anderson

Thomas Mitchell Anderson, beloved son of Hugh and Marcia (Chamberlain) Anderson, passed away suddenly on Sunday January 17, 2021 at the all too young age of 37. Tom was born on September 21, 1983, one month after his family settled in New Hartford. He was active with his circle of friends in Cub Scouts, Little League and Youth Soccer, and loved to play paintball. Tom had a wonderful spirit and sense of humor that he liberally used, once earning an award from his 6th grade teacher as “Mr. Amusing, for providing hours of entertainment as the resident comedian”. His smile and laugh always lit up the room, at gatherings with friends and family. Tom was relentless in his passions, and at age 12 discovered his calling as a musician by taking up the guitar. After performing at one of his regular recitals, his instructor looked up and said “that boy is going to be a rhythm guitarist”. He mastered both electric and acoustic guitar and loved to just jam out in his room. After high school Tom followed his dream to Boston and earned a degree in Music Synthesis and Technology from the Berklee College of Music. He was so proud to be a part of that community and made many great friends in his time there. While in college, Tom worked for a production company and regularly did stage “load in and load out” for concerts by some of the biggest names in the business, including CSNY, Mick Jagger and Roger Waters. Tom created and produced his own electronic “house music”, gifting original CD’s to his family and to many well known DJ’s. His music was innovative and reflected his innate boldness and sense of adventure. Recently Tom began serving others with pride as a home health companion. Those who truly knew Tom knew a young man with a big heart and big dreams. He was a gentle soul, a true and loyal friend who would do anything for you.

In addition to his parents and many friends, Tom leaves behind two brothers, Michael Anderson of Jupiter, FL and Jeffrey Anderson of New Hartford, his nephew Hayden Anderson of Sprague CT, his paternal grandmother Janice Anderson of Farmington, CT, many aunts and uncles, and his first cousins Cole, Meg, Kate, Kim, Rick, Matthew, Tony, Alex, Bill, Lauren and Holly, with whom he shared so many family adventures growing up. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Richard Anderson, maternal grandparents Sherwood and Arlene Chamberlain, and his aunt Lois Hinners.

Due to covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Hands of Grace Food in New Hartford, CT. The Vincent Funeral Home of Canton is caring for arrangements. Please visit Tom’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
