Obituary for John A. Fregeau

John A. “Jack” Fregeau, 89, of Manchester, NH formerly of Avon, CT, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021 with his family by his side. John was born April 26, 1931 in Pawtucket, RI, the son of Jennie and Arthur Fregeau. John was a gifted student, attending schools in Pawtucket and Bryant College before enlisting in the Navy in 1951 where he served aboard the USS Willard Keith as a Fire Control Technician First Class.

John had a long and distinguished career as a Customer Engineer at IBM in Hartford, CT where he made many lifelong friends and met the love of his life, Mary Nashlenas. After his retirement in 1987, John worked as a tax preparer in Winsted, CT in addition to being a ‘Jack” of all trades around his home and those of his kids. John was an avid reader, bridge player, crossword puzzle master and enjoyed playing and teaching cribbage to his many children and grandchildren. He loved the family vacations to the Rhode Island shore and was always available if any of his kids needed help with a home project.

John had a strong Catholic faith and was completely devoted to his family. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mary, whom he credited with giving him the gift of a large loving family. Like her, his favorite moments were times spent with loved ones; the more the merrier. They were both enthusiastic fans of the UConn Huskies Women’s basketball team, rarely missing a televised game.

John leaves behind his six children and 16 grandchildren: Mark Fregeau and his wife Michele of Londonderry, NH and their three sons Mike, Chris and Peter; Jean Fregeau of Columbia, MD and her three children Nate, Maria and Luke; Lisa Babcock and her husband Terry of Bonita Springs, FL and South Yarmouth, MA and their two children Alexis and John; Jim Fregeau of Rye, NH and his four children Harrison, Ruby, Cameron and Tyler; Peter Fregeau and his wife Jill of Rye, NH and his three children Emily, Caroline and Piper; and Julie Fregeau of West Hartford, CT and her son Ben. He also leaves his sister Claire Blezard and her husband Richard of San Diego, CA.
