Obituary for Susanne Cummings

Susanne Conley Cummings of Simsbury left us to join loved ones with her God in heaven on March 15 after a brief period of illness following a long and fruitful life of 92 years. She was born and raised in Brockton Massachusetts, the youngest of J. Frank Conley and Alice McCarthy. Sue was predeceased by her 3 siblings, Frank, Jay, and Mary Nelson, her husband Joseph and son Mark. She is survived by her sons and their families. Paul, Karen, Derek, and Brendan of West Simsbury. Neil, Cathy, Reed wife Carolyn children Esme and Nora, Conley, fiancé Alyssa Mucciolo, and Owen. Tony, Emmy, and Ellie of Yungabura Australia. She was a proud alumni of Mount Holyoke College and Simmons College.
Sue and Joe were committed to providing their sons with the best opportunities, ski weekends, summer camps and attending their numerous sporting events. Once the boys were grown, Sue returned to work for many years at CIGNA Retirement before her own retirement in 1995. Sue was a people person and loved to hear stories and search for common connections with whomever she met. When we measure the success of her life and accomplishments, the intangibles are what matters: Faith to her God and Church, loyalty to her family and friends, and a sense of purpose (with a bit of a dry sense of humor thrown in) that good deeds and acts will eventually triumph to make the world a better place. She celebrated Mass at both St. Mary’s and St. Patrick-St. Anthony Churches.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 27th at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury with interment to follow in Simsbury Cemetery. During this pandemic, the family recognizes personal choice and welcomes you to celebrate Sue’s life with us but understands if you are unable.
