Obituary for Jadwiga Rozwadowski (Szkoda)

Jadwiga D. (Szkoda) Rozwadowski, 90, of Simsbury, beloved wife for 60 years of Francziszek "Frank" Rozwadowski, died Monday, April 5, 2021 at McLean in Simsbury. She was born August 6, 1930 in Chorow, Poland, daughter of the late Jozef and Antonina (Makowska) Szkoda. She and her 4 siblings led a quiet and happy life until the start of World War II. She was only a child when the Red Army forcibly evicted her family and neighbors and transported them in packed cattle cars to a labor camp in a remote region of Siberia. By the grace of God, she and her family survived 2 years of forced labor, sickness and starvation. When the Soviets joined the Allies, the families were freed, allowing able bodied men to form an army and fight to liberate Europe. Jadwiga and her family were transported through Tehran to Africa, where they lived in a refugee camp in Tanganyika, under Mount Kilimanjaro. At the end of the war, the families were repatriated to Melton Mowbry, England, where she met and married her beloved husband. Two years later, they emigrated to the US and settled in Hartford and then West Hartford where they raised their two sons. After the marriages of their sons, Jadwiga and Frank built a home in Cromwell, where they resided for over 27 years. Both were longtime parishioners of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford and while in Simsbury, Jadwiga was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church where she enjoyed attending daily Mass. Jadwiga loved to travel and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She leaves two sons, George Rozwadowski and his wife Nancy of Simsbury and Peter Rozwadowski and his wife Chris of Colombia, MO; her sister, Helen Baranek of Chicago, IL; and four grandchildren, Elena (Rozwadowski) Harvey and husband Bayne, and Adam, Kristen, and Justin Rozwadowski. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jozef Szkoda and wife Emilia and Jan Szkoda and wife Lucja and her sister, Irena Niewiadomski and husband Tadeusz.

A private Mass and burial will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements. Please visit Jadwiga's "Book of Memories" at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
