Obituary for Susan McGraw
Susan (Hammand) McGraw, 80, of Simsbury, wife of the late Richard P. McGraw died Friday, June 18, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. She was born September 23, 1940 in Elmwood, daughter of the late Ernest G. and Eleanor (Koert) Hammand and lived there prior to moving to Simsbury 58 years ago. Susan was a secretary at the West District School and Simsbury High School’s Guidance Department for many years. She enjoyed walks in Maine, going to the casino and time at the beach with her sisters. She was a common fixture in Saratoga Springs in the month of August where she enjoyed betting on the horses. Susan also loved her trips to Florida and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Richard P. McGraw, II and his wife Kerry of Simsbury and Cheryl McGraw of Surfside, SC; her sisters, Beverly McRory and her partner John and Roberta Guthrie and her husband Kevin; her grandchildren, Richard P. McGraw, III and Amy Moore and her husband Tim; her great grandchildren, Lilly McGraw and Charlie Moore; daughter-in-law Julie McGraw and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Susan was predeceased by her companion, Vas Bedrosian and her sister, Virginia Beal.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 22nd, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 23rd at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road in Avon. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.
