Obituary for Carole F. Fisher (Finn)
Mrs. Carole Fisher (née Finn) died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on June 27, 2021, in Simsbury, CT at the age of 80.
Carole is survived by her daughter, Katherine (Fisher), and son-in-law, Davin Kiesewetter; grandsons Jacob and Evan Kiesewetter all of Simsbury, CT; and her sister Susan Smith (Finn) of Middletown, WI. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, David A. Fisher Jr., of Canton, CT; and her parents.
Carole was born on November 25, 1940, in Washington D.C. to Bernice and William Finn. At age 5, the whole family relocated to Paris, France. Her father was involved in diplomatic efforts to reestablish agriculture throughout post-world-war II Europe. The myriad global travel experiences were a source of vivid and fond memories. She adored sharing tales of cultural and international adventures, experiences, and the occasional foibles or faux pas.
She is eternally grateful for the educational foundation provided by the American School of Paris in her early education. She earned her undergraduate degree from Cornell University in 1962 and later a Master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1963. She began teaching in Schenectady, NY, where she married her beloved husband, David, in 1966.
Carole and David resided in Canton throughout their marriage and shared life. Carole taught for 38 years at Conard High School, in West Hartford, CT. She was an accomplished and respected teacher and loved to watch students of all ages explore and learn.
Following her retirement in 2009, Carole cherished spending time with friends and family, and entertaining at her home in Canada Lake, NY. She enjoyed all manner of activities including gardening, kayaking, and watching her beloved hummingbirds. She was a dedicated member of several church committees and missions projects through the First Congregational Church of Canton Center. She was an active board member for the Caroga Historical Association Museum, in upstate NY, where she enjoyed organizing fundraising events, musical performances, art exhibitions, and artisan craft fairs.
Carole loved her loyal canine companions deeply and basked in their companionship. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to ECAD (Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities) at PO Box 831, Torrington, CT.
