Obituary for Sylvia Brimmer

Sylvia (Lerche) Brimmer, 87, of West Simsbury, beloved wife of the late Leslie R. Brimmer, died peacefully on Sunday morning, August 8, 2021 at her home. She was born February 17, 1934 in New York, NY, daughter of the late Einer and Selma (Pasgaard) Lerche and had lived in Newington prior to moving to West Simsbury over 50 years ago. She was a loving and supportive mother who pursued a variety of interests throughout her life. A talented artist sculpting with clay, Sylvia attended the Pratt Institute, the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts, and was a member of the Farmington Valley Arts Center. She was a bookkeeper for her son at Steve Brimmer Photography and spent time working with the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board. Sylvia was also a volunteer at St. Agnes Home and Newington Children’s Hospital, as well as an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in West Simsbury. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, and dancing.

Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Harm of West Simsbury; her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Eunice Brimmer of Torrington; and her daughter, Nancy Amenta of West Simsbury; nine grandchildren, Gregory, Christopher, and Michael Harm; Delia and Steven Brimmer; Mary Amenta; and Joshua and Ryan Brimmer and Leah (Brimmer) Villarreal; and 11 great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Malcolm, Sylvia, and Desmond Harm; Jack, Finley, and Piper Brimmer; Declan and Ainsley Brimmer; and Harper and Hannah Villarreal. She was predeceased by a son, Kevin Brimmer and brothers, Svend Lerche and Richard Lerche.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Saturday, August 14th from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 PM followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial, 2:00 PM at St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road, West Simsbury, CT 06092.
