Obituary for Clarissa Miller

Clarissa “Chris” Crunden Miller, 97, formerly of Simsbury, died peacefully at home on September 23, 2021. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard, of 67 years, her son Bradford Miller and her ten brothers and sisters.

Chris leaves her daughter Cathleen Rumbold and husband Bob, son David Miller and wife Nina and daughter-in-law Anita Miller, grandchildren Diane and her husband Eric, Julie, Scott and his wife Maria, Shannon, Holly, Zack, Matt, Becky and Evan and great grandsons Sean and Ethan. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Born on May 5, 1924, she was the youngest child of the late Herbert and Edyth (Birkins) Crunden. She attended the Mill Street School, a one room schoolhouse in W. Hartland and Gilbert High school in Winsted where she graduated third in her class. In 1946 she graduated from the Nursing school at Hartford Hospital where she was employed in various positions including an operating room nurse, a nursing teacher, a floor supervisor and a pediatric nurse. In 1947 Chris and Howard met and were married six months later. In 1955 they moved to Simsbury where together they built their home, raised their family, and lived for 60 years. Chris enjoyed spending time with her family and took an interest in all their children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She attended their events as much as possible, including baseball and softball games, operas, plays, concerts and musicals. She was also a fan of Boston Red Sox Baseball, UConn Basketball and the Opera.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, September 26th, from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. A graveside funeral service will be held at the Simsbury Cemetery, 16 Plank Hill Road in Simsbury on Monday September 27th, at 1:00pm.
