Obituary for Jean Gazzola

Jacqueline Jean Gazzola, 93 years young, of Briarwood Drive, Simsbury, beloved wife of the late James L. Gazzola, returned unexpectedly to our Lord in the presence of her loving daughter, Janet, on September 30, 2021. She was born July 24, 1928 in Manhattan, NY, daughter of the late Anthony and Frances (Romano) Curasi and lived in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens prior to moving to Simsbury, CT with her family in 1969.

Jean was a graduate of Central Commercial High School, Manhattan. While in high school, she purposefully worked at various jobs, each for no more than 6 months, to explore options. Prior to coming to Connecticut, she worked for RKO Pictures & Palace Theatre as a booking secretary and then as a secretary in their advertising department. She had the opportunity to meet and work with a number of stars including Judy Garland, a highlight. From the entertainment world she went on to become a legal secretary. In Connecticut, Jean was a Research Assistant in the financial library at Aetna where she utilized her many organizational talents and boundless energy until her retirement in 1998. Hardworking and driven to always do the maximum, her contributions were always recognized.

Jean had a deep and strong faith and was a long-time member of St. Mary's Church, Simsbury. She volunteered many years for their Granny’s Attic and in the community for Meals-on-Wheels.

Vibrant, kind, fun, full of wisdom and common sense, the warm and lovely Jean touched many lives and had an energy that always belied her years. She was very creative with a flair for design and an eye for detail; striving always to do her best, help people, and leave things better. She loved to travel, get together with family and friends and enjoyed museums, theater, music, good food, reading and staying active, especially working outside to keep her home looking beautiful. One of her great joys was spending time with her daughter and best friend, Janet. Jean is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Janet G. and Philip Brzezinski of Southbury and caring cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita and Vic Acquaviva, Norma and James Guerra, Sr., and Aida and Merwin Monroe.
