Obituary for Almond Lee Stanley
Almond (Bill) Lee Stanley, was born April 27, 1944 in Oskaloosa, IA to Helen and Lester Stanley. He transitioned from this life to the next on November 28, 2021 in Hartford, CT.
Bill was a graduate of Sigourney High School and the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in business. On August 6, 1966 he married his high school sweetheart, Lois Streigle Stanley. Together, with their two children, Brad and Carie, they made their home in many places around the country as Bill worked in sales and marketing positions with American Can Company, Borden Foods, Marketfare Foods, and First Texas Bank, Georgetown.
His family and his church were always important parts of his life and he made it a point to spend time with both. He volunteered as a coach for Brad and Carie’s sports teams while they were growing up. And he served as a youth leader, elder, and trustee at various churches most recently in Wilton, CT, Westerville, OH, and Georgetown, TX.
In retirement, he taught an adult Sunday School class. He also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club in Georgetown serving on the founding board and teaching Boy Scout STEM to club members. Another non-profit he supported with time and his cooking skills was R.O.C.K horse therapy for children and veterans.
As a life long athlete, he loved to ski, golf, and play tennis. He was proud to have ridden his bicycle 50 miles on his 70th birthday and 3,000 miles in a year. Photography was another passion which took Bill and his family to many of the National Parks. Bill had a zest for life and a love for people that made him many life-long friends, both in business and personal. He embraced the internet, because it allowed him to keep in contact with friends and family near and far.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, Helen Robison Stanley, Lester Stanley, and Arlene Olive Stanley, his baby brother Armond; four sisters: Mary Ann Smith, Ardeth Floden, Rita Shipley, and Dorothy (Don) Pace. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois Streigle Stanley of Simsbury, CT, two children, Brad Stanley of Tariffville, CT, Carie (Jeff) Morgan of Boonton, NJ, and four granddaughters: Andi and Savannah Morgan, and Gwen and Hannah Stanley. He is also survived by his sister Debra (Dan) Cowman and brother, Charles Stanley.
