Obituary for Richard G. Verret

Richard "Rit" G. Verret, 69 of Canton, beloved husband of Lenore Verret, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 21, 2021. Born in Lewiston, ME on December 18, 1951, son of the late Roland Verret and Yvonne Desrosiers, Rit was an Army Veteran and Master Mechanic, retired from Galasso Materials of East Granby and a proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 478 for over 40 years.

Rit was an avid gardener and motorcycle enthusiast who could be found at any given time working in his garden- when not souping up his favorite Harleys. He was an incredibly kind and compassionate man who always put the needs of others before his own. His kindness and compassion was an innate part of who he was and this was no less evident than in the way he cared for injured and abandoned animals. The word “no” simply did not exist when it came to helping animals- whether large or small.

In addition to his loving wife Lenore, Rit leaves behind his sister, Linda Berube and her husband Al Berube as well as his brother Michael Verret. Rit also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Dave Hipler and sister-in-law, Sandie Hipler, brother-in-law, Guy Daniels and sister-in-law, Kelly Daniels as well brother-in-law, Michael Fitzsimons and sister-in-law, Darcie Fitzsimons, in addition to many nieces and nephews. Rit’s wonderful smile and great sense of humor will be missed by his friends and family alike.

A private service and burial will be at the convenience of the family, however a celebration of his life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Animal Friends of Connecticut, PO Box 370306, West Hartford, CT 06137-0306.
