Obituary for Marilyn B. Ives

Marilyn Bromley Ives, 90, of Simsbury, wife of the late Frederic Ives, died Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. She was born July 6, 1931 in Boston, MA, daughter of the late Thomas and Mae (Thompson) Bromley and lived in Dedham, MA growing up.  Marilyn and Fred met on a blind date, with both claiming to know they had met the person they were going marry.  They remained together for 49 years until Fred passed in 2007.  They moved to Simsbury 50 years ago, where Marilyn became an active member in the community as she raised her family.  She was a member of the Simsbury United Methodist Church, and volunteered for many years with Child and Family Services as well as with the McLean Home in Simsbury.  She enjoyed rug hooking, sewing and quilting, and created many beautiful pieces proudly displayed in her home.  She also enjoyed playing bridge with a group of friends she affectionately called “the ladies”. 

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth B. and Sandra Ives of Unionville, Robert K. and Valerie Ives of West Simsbury and Bradford C. and Wendy Ives of Farmington; seven grandchildren, Hannah, Connor, Chandler, Spencer, Mitchell, Carolyn and Kevin.  She was predeceased by a grandson, Gordon Ives and her sister, Joanne Brown. 

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 23rd from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, followed by a funeral service at the Simsbury United Methodist Church, 799 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury at 2:00 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
