Obituary for Richard Palmateer

Richard Palmateer, beloved husband of Suzanne, went to his heavenly home on February 25, 2022. They would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary in June. His children Steven Palmateer and wife Bonnie, Cathy Martin and husband Jim, and Tom Palmateer, his daughter-in-law, Andrea Palmateer; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren were the most important part of his life. Dick retired from Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY in 1984, having worked there for 36 years.

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a Cub Scout leader at Paddy Hills School in Greece, NY, Boy Scout leader of troop 86at the First Baptist Church in Brockport, NY and Neighborhood Chairman of the Otetiana Counsel of the BSA for his area. He coached Little League baseball in Greece, NY. He was active in all 3 of his children’s sports and the band booster club. Both he and Suzanne loved square dancing with the Glass Slippers Club from Brockport, NY. They spent many years camping with family and friends and their camping group Brockport Coffee Cup Campers. After retiring, they spent three years traveling and camping throughout the US and Canada making many friends along the way. They settled in Zephyrhills, FL after their travels. Eighteen years later, they moved to South Carolina to be closer to family. In 2021, as Dick’s health declined, they moved to Connecticut. Dick moved into the Governor’s House care facility, where he was lovingly cared for by the staff. His family will be eternally grateful for the tender care he received.

Dick was a deacon in the Southern Baptist Church and a member of Northside Baptist Church in Pickens, SC. His family is so blessed by the love and support of their Church family.

A Private Memorial Celebration will be held at a later date.
