Obituary for Geraldine Muench

Geraldine Pantaleo Muench, 91, of Simsbury, wife of the late Joseph Leo Muench, died Monday, August 1, 2022 at John Dempsey Hospital. She was born September 16, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Giovanni and Isabella (Moliti) Pantaleo and lived in New York City and Pittsburgh, PA prior to moving to Simsbury 50 years ago.

She went to secretarial school after high school and had a career as an Executive Secretary for presidents of several companies. She put her career on hold to raise her family and returned to her profession with a passion until retiring at 71 years old. In retirement, Mimi, as her family and friends called her, would read the Wall Street Journal cover to cover every day, clipping and mailing all sorts of interesting articles to her children. She was an accomplished cook and enjoyed throwing large family dinners where, as a true Sicilian, would make four times the amount of food necessary for any given meal and would start bringing out three deserts before the dishes were even cleared.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury, the Simsbury Finance Committee, and a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed playing bridge with Leo in their local club and enjoyed creating ceramic figurines that the family still displays. However, she was most happy when surrounded by her loving family.

She leaves her children, Larry Muench and wife JoAnne of Medway, MA, John Muench and wife Tammi McVay of Portsmouth, RI, Irene Muench-McDonough and husband Gary McDonough of Simsbury, and Eleanor and husband Scott MacKay of Duxbury, MA; her grandchildren (which she affectionately called her “Sugar Plums”), David, Kevin, Eric, Matthew and Michael Muench, and Ian and Allie MacKay. She was predeceased by her sister Jennie D’Agustino.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 9th at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will be at 1:00 PM in the State Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown CT. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to the American Red Cross. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements.
