Obituary for Juan Robert Poetzsch

Juan Robert “Bob” Poetzsch, 93, of Farmington CT, husband of 61 years to the late Pauline Mary (Jaschinski) Poetzsch, quietly transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, October 24, 2022 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. Born November 13, 1928 in Bloomfield, son of the late William Fernando and Ruby Sarah (Stoetzner) Poetzsch.

Bob is survived by his daughter Martha Kleszcz of Unionville, his sons, Robert Poetzsch of Unionville, Norman Poetzsch of Middletown and Carey Poetzsch of Canton; his grandchildren, Austin, Brian and Carter Poetzsch of Plainville, Daniel Poetzsch, Jessica Olabisi, Richard Kleszcz and Brandon Poetzsch of Unionville, Ryan Poetzsch and wife Jessica of Rockfall and LindsAy Poetzsch of San Diego, CA; Great-grandchildren, Addison, Lilah and Brayden Poetzsch and Jaiden, Dantae and Sharon Olabisi; his sisters-in-law, Eleanor Doyle and husband Malcolm of Elmwood and Gladys Poetzsch of Catskill, NY; his brother-in-law, Ernest Jaschinski, Jr. of Canton, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Marion E. Zura and his brother, William F. Poetzsch, Jr.

Juan graduated from Bloomfield HS in 1946, the U.S. Naval School as Electronics Technician in Great Lakes, Illinois; having served with U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 on USS Zellers 777 in the Korean War. He continued his education, graduating from University of Hartford, Ward Technical Institute as an Electronics Maintenance Technician in 1964. He retired from Hamilton Standard after 27 years of service as Metrology Foreman in 1991. He was proud to be a Navy Veteran of the Korean War; and served as Chaplain of the Farmington VFW Chapter 10361.

Juan was Past Grand President of the Order of the Hermann’s Sohns of the State of Connecticut and a 65+ year member of Schiller Lodge #25 of Collinsville. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Avon. Juan, an avid golfer, also enjoyed bowling, feeding birds and tending to his vegetable garden. He took great pride in his yard, where each spring the daffodils popped up and each summer he planted red geraniums along the walkway. He was happiest spending time with family, watching the UConn Women’s Basketball and Red Sox Baseball with Pauline, and especially with his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father and Grandfather who was always there when we needed him. He had many friends and was well-loved by everyone who knew him.

Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, November 1st from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 2nd at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 224 Lovely Street in Avon with Associate Pastor Brian Rajcok officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Old St. Andrew’s Cemetery, 59 Tariffville Road in Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 224 Lovely Street, Avon, CT 06001.
