Obituary for Nancy Shumski (Wood)

Nancy Wood Shumski, 84, of Burlington, VT, wife of the late Hendry K. Shumski, died October 9, 2022 at McLean in Simsbury, CT. She was born August 25, 1938 in Derby Line, VT, daughter of the late Leland and Helen (Heyer) Wood and had lived in Burlington, VT prior to moving to Simsbury four years ago. Nancy attended Derby Academy where she was a member of the basketball team, the Glee Club and Jazz Ensemble. Nancy was a secretary for General Electric and First Congregational Church in Burlington, VT. Prior to moving to Simsbury she was a member of the First Congregational Church in Burlington, VT, the Eldoes with the Elks Club, and assisted with Girl Scouts. She enjoyed gardening, baking, playing the clarinet, downhill skiing, cards, and bowling. Her biggest joy in life was her family. She loved traveling with Hank for work where she would often work on her knitting, crochet, sewing or needle point. She made the best Halloween costumes and her children would often win first place for best costume thanks to her craftsmanship and creativity. Her favorite place on earth was anywhere Hank was, especially Hawaii where they traveled together multiple times including taking their children there twice. Her biggest claim to fame was when she painted a cow green!

She is survived by her children, Deborah Shumski of Burlington, VT, Linda Prell and husband Kevin of West Simsbury, CT and Scot Shumski and wife Julia of Fort Lee, VA; her grandchildren, Samantha and Leland Smith, Joshua and Jonathan Prell and Hunter, Eva and Acadia Shumski. She was predeceased by her brother, Dave Wood.

Grave side services will be held in private. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you reconnect with an old friend, forgive others, provide random acts of kindness, hug and love deeper and longer.
