Obituary for Frederick Burt Hudon

Frederick Burt Hudon, 92, a lifelong resident of Canton, died Thursday, November 24th, 2022 peacefully at home. Born November 13, 1930 in Collinsville, he was the only child of Ephrem Joseph and Elizabeth (Burt) Hudon. Fred is predeceased by Nancy, his wife of 69 years. They married in March 1954 (after eloping in September 1952). They celebrated both wedding anniversaries each year.

Fred attended Canton schools, graduating in 1949. He graduated from The Perkiomen Preparatory School in Pennsylvania prior to serving in the US Marine Reserves, followed by the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Fred was a Tool Designer for Pratt and Whitney for 33 years. After retirement in 1987, he went to Indonesia as a consultant for an aeronautical affiliate of UTC. He and Nancy lived there for 6 months. After returning home and spending the summer in Maine, they went to South Korea in the same capacity, for another 6 months.

Fred was a member of the St. Andrews Masonic Lodge #64 in Winsted, for 66 years, He was a member of the Collinsville Congregational Church and then The North Canton Community United Methodist Church. He served each in many capacities, from elder and handyman, choir member, dishwasher and electrician. He was also a member of the Gildo Consolini VFW Post 3272 in Avon.

Fred had many hobbies, among them woodworking, and caning and repairing antique chairs for The Hitchcock Chair Company. His favorite place was the shop in his garage. He got his Pilots License in 1966, and many family birthdays were celebrated by going flying. Fred was an avid golfer and also played tennis. He rode his motorcycle until he was 90; he was “The Leader of The Pack” of the Hudon Harley Gang.

Fred and Nancy spent many summers on their island in Maine. Fred renovated the camp, built a new outhouse, and on the mainland, a garage. He enjoyed many hours on the lake, kayaking, waterskiing, and ferrying people on his party boat. He successfully revived the inboard motor of an Old Town canoe he nicknamed Blunderbus, which he later donated to the Maine State Museum. Fred and Nancy spent several winters on The Outer Banks of North Carolina, flying at Kitty Hawk, and enjoying the quiet off season.

Fred was proud of his family heritage, his service to his country and thankful most of all, for the freedoms we have living in the United States.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Leslie Keith and husband Verne of Winthrop, Maine; son, Tom of Canton; daughter, Kit of Canton; son, David and wife Shari, of Ft.
