Obituary for Phyllis Carroll (Messenger)

Phyllis Marie (Messenger) Carroll, 65, of Mohawk Drive in Canton CT, beloved Wife, cherished Mother and friend to many, passed from this life unexpectedly on December 23rd 2022 at her home. Phyllis was born in Hartford CT to the late Mary Harriet (Lynn) Messenger and the late Francis Conrad Messenger. Phyllis grew up on Mohawk Drive in Canton, and she went on to raise her son Jake in the family home. She attended school for Medical Assisting as well as accounting and worked in various agencies and businesses in the area. She especially loved her recent work at The Agape House in Bristol and enjoyed helping those in need. She also loved her most recent position working as an Office Manager for The Workman in Torrington. Phyllis was well known in the Farmington Valley for her kind heart, warm spirit, and loving nature. Phyllis was best known for her numerous years serving as a bartender in Barkhamsted, Winsted, New Hartford, Canton, and Torrington CT. She was the person that people went to see, and she spread love and care to everyone she met. She is remembered as the person you could always count on, whether it be a kind word, a warm hug, or a safe place to be. She leaves many lifelong friends, many of whom she considered to be her family.

She is survived by her loving husband Duke Philip Carroll of Canton, whom she would be celebrating 30 years of marriage with this coming October. She leaves her beloved son and best friend Duke Jacob Carroll and her new daughter-in-law Julia Elizabeth Thompson Carroll also of Canton. She is also survived by her beloved family Timothy Robert Tofil and Dr. Pamela Ann Kurth Tofil of West Hartford. She also leaves numerous extended family members of the Messenger and Lynn families as well as her in-laws, the Carrolls.

Calling hours will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Thursday, January 5th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial to honor Phyllis will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 6th at the Immaculate Conception Church of Our Lady of Hope Parish in New Hartford at 3 Church Street N, New Hartford CT.

A reception is currently being planned and details for that will be made available as soon as possible.
