Obituary for Anthony Joseph Toland, Jr.

Anthony Joseph Toland, Jr. (Tony), beloved father to his children and husband of Andrea Siana-Toland, unexpectedly died at the age of 58 on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Tony was the first born child to his loving parents, Helen G. (Lachowicz) Toland and the late Anthony Joseph Toland, Sr.. He was born in New Jersey and later moved to Connecticut where he lived for the remainder of his life; moving from West Hartford to North Granby, and many memorable homes in between. Outside of his two sons, Tony’s greatest pride was his time in the service as a mechanic on the USS CV66 Aircraft Carrier for the U.S. Navy and being in direct conflict events leading to the Persian Gulf War. After the service, he became a salesman, with humble beginnings selling Kirby Vacuums, and eventually becoming President of his family company, Credit and Financial Services (CFS) of West Hartford (now Accu-Track). Tony was a salesman by trade, but more than anything he was a provider - for his family, employees, and all those who he loved. He was wise beyond his years, and a poetic soul; as such, he was a man of the simple things. Tony loved fly fishing, smoking cigars with friends and his sons, walking his dogs, and playing chess and card games with his family. He also took great pride in taking care of his truck, as well as his home. Tony and his wife, Andrea, were always working on small and large improvement projects to build their dream home together. In addition to this, all who knew Tony knew he was a craftsman at heart, whether it be making his own flies for fishing, or creating unique gifts by hand for those people he held closest.

As much as he loved watching college football and the Philadelphia Eagles, his family reflects that one of his greatest pleasures was getting to see his sons play football, especially for the two years they were fortunate enough to play side by side at Canton High School. Tony loved to support all his kids, whether it be watching his sons play football or fishing with them, going to horse shows to watch his oldest step-daughter compete, or eating far too many baked goods made by his youngest step-daughter.

In addition to his loving wife, and his mother, he leaves his sons, Shane Toland (26 of Glastonbury, CT) and Keegan Toland (24 of Charlotte, NC); his stepdaughters, Makenna (27 of Glastonbury, CT) and Shelby (25 of North Granby, CT), both of which were as close to being his own children as one could imagine; his sisters, Valerie Magro and husband Paul (of Avon, CT), and Danielle Danler and husband Chris (of Plymouth, MN) as well as several nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply.

A celebration of his life will be held at Holcomb Farm, 111 Simsbury Road in West Granby on Saturday, March 11th. His family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM closing with family remembrances and military final honors at 4:30 PM. Tony’s family respectfully asks all who attend to dress comfortably, but to wear blue rather than black, if wearing formal attire is desired.

Anthony Joseph Toland, Jr. was a friend and comfort to all who knew him, he was someone who was easy to talk to and would always lend an ear. Tony would do anything for those he loved, and all those who loved him will forever miss him. In the wake of this tragedy, Tony’s sons ask all who knew their father to remember him not in sorrow, but to relish in all of the loving memories he left us with, and encourage all to make joy a priority in their lives.
