Obituary for Muriel LeGeyt

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Muriel Bristol LeGeyt, on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Muriel lived well into her 100th year, passing just shy of her 100th birthday which would have been July 20th. She filled her 99+ years with meaning, caring and devotion to her wide circle of family and friends.

She was born in Canton Center, CT to her parents, Mortimer R. and Blanche R. (Gillette) Bristol and lived there her whole life. She was a proud member of the Canton High School Class of 1941 and a loving wife to our dad, Henry A. LeGeyt, who predeceased her in 1995. She is survived by her six children; Tim (Cary), Dan (Patti), Phil, Walter, and Cora (Bob Mutch) of Canton, CT and Matt (Sarah) of Saco, Maine; her step-son, Thomas (Peggy); her "adopted" son, Gary Adajian (Karen) of Canton, CT; her sister, Bernice McNamee of Florida; her grandchildren, Burton (Bonnie), Jennifer (Greg), Ben (Riza), Joe, Danny, Sam (Meaghan), Allyson, Emily, Chris, Abby, and Katie; her step-grandchildren, Michael (Kathleen), Yvonne (Jeff Shea) and John Perkins (CleAnn), several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two grandchildren; Zachary LeGeyt and Casey LeGeyt and two step-grandchildren, Denise Humphrey and Brett Hooper, along with several nieces and nephews.

Muriel was an 85-year member of the First Congregational Church, Canton Center, having been confirmed at age 14 in April 1938, where she taught Sunday School, was part of the Christian Endeavor group and served on the Diaconate. She was also a 50+ year member of Cherry Brook Grange and Riverton Grange, a 50+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the DAR since 2006.

She worked in a variety of jobs, including Traveler's Insurance Company, Hinman's School Bus Company of Canton, Security CT Life Insurance Company, and her favorite job, as a Customer Service Representative for Collinsville Savings Society where she worked for 21 years, retiring at the age of 86!

Muriel was appointed Grand Marshall for the Canton Bicentennial Celebration in 2006. She loved the Boston Red Sox and the UCONN Women Huskies and she followed Joey Lagano, her favorite driver in the NASCAR circuit. She was well known for her baseball bat cane and her marker plate (MB15) and she attended as many sporting events as she could where her children or grandchildren were playing. There was always room at her table for one more and she took part in countless Memorial Day Clam bakes which her family organized over the years.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Meadowbrook of Granby for the wonderful care they have provided to our Mom over these past 3 years.

Her family will receive family and friends during calling hours at Vincent's Funeral Home in Canton on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. There will be a private committal service for immediate family at Dyer Cemetery on Saturday, April 29th and a Celebration of her life will be held on what would have been her 100th birthday, July 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, Canton Center, CT with a reception to follow.

Arrangements are being handled by Vincent's Funeral Home, Canton, CT. Donations in Muriel's name can be made to the First Congregational Church, Canton Center, CT.
