Obituary for Dorothy Margot Allen

Dorothy Margot Allen passed away peacefully on April 29, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family and of her devoted caregivers. She was born May 20, 1931 in Chichester, United Kingdom, daughter of the late Reginald and Ella (Small) Carnsew and sister of the late John Carnsew of Cairns, Australia. Known by her family and friends as Margot, she was educated at Chichester High School and graduated from the Field and Morris Physiotherapy School, London. A member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Margot specialized in the treatment of children suffering from Cerebral Palsy. She married the love of her life, the late Dr. Hugh Brian Allen in March,1962, when they were both practicing at Cuckfield Hospital in West Sussex, England. Margot spent many years working in children’s special education programs including Chailey Heritage and Court Meadows, UK. In 1985, Margot and her husband Brian moved to the United States, settling in Guilford, CT, until their retirement in 1995. During the following 10 years, Margot enjoyed life on Pine Island, Florida, pursuing her keen interests in painting, choral singing, reading, boating, and traveling. Among her favorite destinations was New Zealand, where she spent several wonderful months exploring the country in a camper with Brian at her side. In more recent years, Margot and Brian moved back to Simsbury, Connecticut to be close to family. It was here, in the later years of her life, that Margot joined the Simsbury Women’s Club and the P.E.O and entered the McLean Village community as an active resident.

Margot is predeceased by her devoted husband of almost 59 years, Brian. She is survived by three loving children: her daughter, Fiona Eytan and her husband Ran of Canton; her sons, Patrick Allen and wife Krista of Canton, and Peter Allen and wife Carla Ross Allen of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Kayla, Ryan and Jacob Allen, Ben, Emma, Adam and Tom Eytan and Zoë Ross Allen and three great grandchildren, Dylan, Rilee, and Logan Dombrowski, as well as her sister-in-law, Margaret Carnsew, her niece and nephew, Joanne and Peter Carnsew, all of Northern Queensland, Australia.
