Obituary for Edward Charles Engelke

Edward Charles Engelke, 91, of East Granby, husband of the late Marie (Fox) Engelke, died Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at his home with family at his side. He was born June 13, 1931 in Simsbury, son of the late Charles and Harriet (Beyer) Engelke and had lived in East Granby all of his life. Ted served in the Air National Guard and was an Operations Manager for State Line Oil for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Church in Tariffville. Ted enjoyed spending time with family and beach time on Cape Cod and Ogunquit. He loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening paired with an ice-cold Heineken.

Ted is survived by his children, Scott Engelke of Granby, Susan Mason and husband Mark of East Granby, Wendy Gamache and husband Michael of Swampscott, MA; his grandchildren, Christopher Engelke, Vanessa Malfitano and husband James, and Lauren Engelke; his great grandchildren, Brandon Engelke and Logan and Ava Malfitano; his sister Candace Hyotte and husband Robert.

Since Marie died at the height of the pandemic, services will be held for both her and Ted. Calling hours will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Sunday, May 21st from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 22nd at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Tariffville. Donations in their memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
