Obituary for Daryl Cramphin

Daryl Hills Cramphin, 96, husband of the late Carolyn Cobb Cramphin, passed away quietly on May 20, 2023 in Fall River, Massachusetts. Daryl was born in New Hartford, New York to the late Harry C. and Irene (Hills) Cramphin. He graduated from New Hartford High School, New Hartford, New York and entered the U.S. Army serving with the 1350th Engineers in Leyte, Philippine Islands during World War Two, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. After returning from the army, he graduated from the University of the State of New York and took a job with B.F. Goodrich Tire and Rubber Company in Buffalo, New York. Daryl married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Fraser Cobb of New Hartford, New York on October 16, 1948, and in the coming years were blessed with a son, Douglas Chandler Cramphin, and a daughter, Diane Fraser Cramphin. In 1959, the family moved to Simsbury, Connecticut where Daryl took a job with Tri-State Industrial Laundries. In March of 1961, Daryl and Carolyn were blessed with another daughter, Barbara Lyn. In 1992, Carolyn and Daryl retired to their dream home in Harwich, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. They enjoyed walking on the beach and appreciating the beauty of the sunsets at Rock Harbor. After eight years on the Cape, Carolyn and Daryl moved to Newburyport, Massachusetts to be closer to Barbara, her husband, Danny, and their two children, Sarah and Jessica. Daryl was a dedicated volunteer fireman for thirty years, and a life-time member of the Eggertsville Hose Company in Amherst, New York and the Simsbury Fire Company in Simsbury, Connecticut, serving as the President of the Simsbury Fire Company in 1978. In addition, Daryl was a dedicated volunteer for the Simsbury Little League and Babe Ruth League for eight years.

Daryl is survived by his son Douglas, his wife Jane Palker Cramphin of Simsbury, Connecticut and their son James Joseph Cramphin, and his wife Amanda Hellen and Daryl's great grandson, Cole, as well as Diane Fraser Cramphin of Westport, Massachusetts, and Barbara Harrington, her husband Danny of West Barnstable, Massachusetts and their daughters Sarah and Jessica.

Calling hours will be at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Saturday, October 14th from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM closing with a tribute by the SVFD. A burial ceremony will follow at 12:30 PM in the Simsbury Cemetery, 16 Plank Hill Road in Simsbury. Donations in Daryl's memory may be sent to the Frank Bradley Fund at the Simsbury Fire Company of Simsbury, Connecticut.
