Obituary for Blair D. Elliott

Blair David Elliott, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at age 73. Born on September 26, 1950 to the late Robert M. and Beverley (Gauvain) Elliott. Blair was the third of four children and a lifelong resident of Simsbury, CT. He was predeceased by his parents and older brother, Robert M. Elliott Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Karen (Burdick) Elliott; daughter Jennifer Berry and her husband Jason of Simsbury; daughter Amy Elliott of Gilbert, AZ; grandsons Shane and Jake Peatfield of Granby, CT; brother Bruce Elliott and wife Susan of Simsbury; sister Faye Tomasello and husband Mark of Simsbury; sister-in-law Catherine Mattheis and husband Bernd (Ben) of Cheshire, CT; nieces and nephews Lauren Lett, Marcy Rockett, Robert Tomasello, Allison Mattheis-Wong, Erik Mattheis, and Geoffrey Mattheis.

Blair grew up in the center of town; playing pick-up baseball and adventures in the woods with his brothers, cousins, and neighborhood friends. He graduated from Simsbury High School and later met Karen while they worked at a local store called Grant’s. The two were married five months later and started their life together in town. They welcomed their two daughters and flourished as a young family. Blair’s job then moved them to Austin, TX for five years.

After returning to Simsbury, Blair and his family settled on Terry’s Plain Road. Blair was known for his amazing vinyl record collection and extensive assortment of baseball hats. He always had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Brandy. Blair also loved spending time outdoors, whether tending to his garden, taking care of his lawn or fishing with his brother. He and Karen were avid bowlers, loved traveling to new places, and enjoyed eating out together. Blair will always be remembered for his laughter and light hearted spirit.

Blair was a hard worker who never stopped. He had a variety of jobs throughout his career; and especially enjoyed his time working at Malcolm Black in Weatogue. He worked for years at Ensign Bickford, and ended his career with Town Fair Tire.

A graveside committal service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Simsbury Cemetery, 16 Plank Hill Road in Simsbury with a reception to follow. His family will always be grateful for the compassionate care Blair received at The Suffield House nursing home over the last year of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Blair’s memory to the Avon Congregational Church. Please visit Blair’s Book of Memories at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
