Obituary for Concetta Rose Post (Giansiracusa)

Concetta Rose Giansiracusa Post, “Connie,” 99, of Slingerlands, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, January, 5, 2024. The wife of the late George A. Post Jr., she lived most of her life in Simsbury, CT. The couple was married for more than 60 years until George’s passing in 2014.

Born on November 8, 1924 and raised in Norfolk, CT, Connie graduated from The Gilbert School in neighboring Winsted and moved to Hartford at the age of 17 to work at the Phoenix Insurance Company. Both she and George also worked part-time at G.Fox and Co. department store, where their shared passion for fashion flourished. The couple briefly lived in Vernon, CT, before settling in Simsbury to raise three daughters. During those years, Connie focused on the family, but relished working part-time at Lord & Taylor in the “Pizzazz” and “Young New Yorker” departments featuring the mod women’s clothing of the 1960s and 70s. She retired from Cigna insurance company in Bloomfield, having worked for years as an administrative assistant.

Connie loved to sing and tap her toes to jazz music. She was a regular in the chorus of musicals produced by the Theatre Guild of Simsbury and worked behind the scenes supporting the Simsbury Summer Theater for Youth for many years. She and George were regulars at Hartford Symphony performances and enjoyed decades of Broadway shows in New York City.

Later in life she joined the Simsbury Senior Center and its “Intonations” singing group, performing twice a year with students from the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music and traveling to entertain at senior communities throughout the Farmington Valley.

Connie also enjoyed traveling, from Sunday afternoon drives throughout New England to business conventions across the country and intrepid adventures to Italy, France, Scandinavia and even Austria where she enjoyed a lavish picnic in the countryside during a total solar eclipse while armed Hungarian border guards stood watch nearby. Connie was happiest by the sea, frequenting beaches in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Oak Island, NC, and the Chatham area of Cape Cod for decades.

Connie was a devout Catholic throughout her life and a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury. She also attended services at St. Catherine of Sienna in Simsbury and St. Ann’s in Avon. A cancer survivor for more than 35 years, Connie believed in the power of prayer, the love of family and the loyalty of friends. Although she endured many challenges in her life, she was not a complainer.

A gifted conversationalist, Connie was genuinely interested in others, befriended people wherever she went and made them feel special. She always had a sympathetic ear and encouraging word to offer. She had a sweet tooth, appreciated art and nature, and loved the color pink, a good bowl of chili, a corny joke and good game of cards. She was a loud laugher, which often made others join in, punctuating family holiday meals.

A loving mother and aunt, Connie will be dearly missed by her daughters: Jennifer K. Post and her husband Bill Ringwood of Albany, NY; Elizabeth Post and her husband Robert M. Cowan of Overland Park, KS; and Melissa G. Post of Canton, CT. She is also survived by two grandsons: Christopher George Cowan of Overland Park, KS, and Benjamin Robert Cowan of Denver, CO. Through Jennifer’s marriage, she also was grandmother to Thomas Ringwood (Meghan) of Rotterdam, NY, and Candace Ellis (Tyler) of Greenfield Center, NY, and great grandmother to Jack Ringwood and Luke, Mira and William Ellis.

She also leaves a brother-in-law Richard Post of Grand Rapids, MI, and many nieces and nephews who she adored, including Joyce Lombardo and her husband Michael, Robert Brancato and his wife Linda, Marie Kamens, Marylou Harrington and her husband James, and Christin, Susan and Richard Post. She also leaves grand nephew Christopher Lombardo (Amy) of Simsbury.

She is predeceased by her beloved sister Angeline Brancato of West Hartford and five brothers: Anthony, Peter, Paul, Sebastian and Humberto Giansiracusa, as well her niece Helen Starwalker (Michael).

The family would like to thank the caring medical team and hospice team at Albany Medical Center, who helped care for her the last week of her life, and the friends and staff of The Terrace at Beverwyck, in Albany, who have been her extended family the past 3 years.

Relatives and friends are welcome to gather for visitation on Thursday, January 18, from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury. She will be laid to rest in Simsbury Cemetery, Plank Hill Road, Simsbury. At the request of the family, masks will be required for those attending services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Simsbury Senior Center, 933 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
