Obituary for Robert Moretta

Robert William Moretta, 94, of Manchester, died Monday, February 5, 2024 at his home. He was born August 4,1929 in New York, NY, son of the late William M. and Florence (Brady) Moretta. Bob was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He grew up in Queens, NY and graduated from De La Salle High School and then Fordham University. He was a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, starting in the New York Office followed by Cleveland, OH, Rocky Mount, NC, and Hartford, retiring with 30 years of service. He enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra, was a New York Giants Baseball fan in his youth and later cheered for the Boston Red Sox.

Bob married Marilyn Lee Packard in 1956, and they moved to Glastonbury in 1974 where they raised their family. He leaves their sons, John Moretta of Westerly, RI, and Steven Moretta and his wife Christine of Simsbury, and daughter Suzanne Essex and her husband Steven of Simsbury; his grandchildren, John Moretta, Jr., Matthew Moretta and wife Libby; Steven Moretta, Jr., Emily, Abigail and Sophie Moretta; and Gabrielle and Allison Essex; and his great granddaughter, Bella Moretta. He was predeceased by his wife Karol Moretta.

There are no calling hours. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on February 16th at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road in West Simsbury. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:00 PM in the State Veterans’ Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements.
