Obituary for Joan Taylor

Joan (Bartosewicz) Taylor, 61, of Weatogue, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at her home in Weatogue, CT. Born on November 27, 1962 in New Britain, CT, daughter of the late John and Genevieve (Juzwinski) Bartosewicz of Plainville, CT. She was a resident of Simsbury, CT for over 30 years after spending her youth in Plainville.

A 1980 graduate of Plainville High School, Joan enrolled at the University of Connecticut - Storrs and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Interior Design in 1984. She then pursued a career in interior design, including successfully running her own independent design business, Taylor Associates, for over 20 years, working with some of the largest companies in the state of Connecticut.

Joan found tremendous joy from cooking, whether it be for her family, friends or after her children’s youth sporting events. Her kitchen was littered with cookbooks and new recipes, and she was never afraid to try different cuisines, ranging from homemade Asian dumplings to every type of pasta you could imagine. She was also an avid UConn basketball, University of Michigan and Yankees fan thanks to her children’s own obsession with those teams. Her passion for event planning and desire to help others also led her to planning charity events for both The American Heart Association and the Bushnell Park Foundation in Hartford, CT.

She is survived and will be dearly missed by her loving sons with their spouses: Andrew Taylor and wife Colleen Kelly of Charleston, SC; and Brenden Talyor and fiancée Paula Bompane of New York, NY; her sister Anne (Bartosewicz) Mele and her husband Tony Mele of Essex, CT; her former husband L. Scott Taylor of Berlin, CT; her beloved cat Max and her grandpets Millie and Bruce.

The family will hold a private memorial service in Simsbury in the coming days. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local pet shelter in her honor. Please visit Joan’s Book of Memories at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
