Obituary for Jerome Winters

Jerome “Jerry” A. Winters, 83, of Canton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at UConn Hospital. He was born in Hartford, CT on November 16, 1940, son of the late Arthur and Sophie Winters.

Jerry was a graduate of Canton High School and received a bachelor’s degree in advertising and marketing from the University of Connecticut in 1963. He later served in the US Army in the Medical Corp. Jerry was employed as a Media Director in various agencies in both the Boston and Hartford areas. He was later employed in the US Treasury Department of the Internal Revenue Service for the New England area offices as a Senior Analyst. He retired in 2006.

Jerry was an accomplished golfer and lover of nature. Being an avid reader, he accumulated an extensive library featuring books on military wars and events, aviation, and US history.

He had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with his family as well as and his best friend, Hank Frye. Jerry spent many hours assembling model airplanes, and in his early years gifted family members with his oil paintings.

He is survived by his sister Barbara Hopkins, nieces Debbie Sindland (John), Beth Dean (Kevin), and Bobbi Warden (Shawn), a great-nephew Kyle Dean, great-nieces Sarah and Erin Warden, as well as numerous cousins. Jerry was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Richard Hopkins.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 4th at St. Patrick’s Church, 50 Church Street in Collinsville. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery.
