Obituary for Helen R. Walsh

Helen R. (Plonowski) Walsh, 97, wife of the late George E. Walsh, died Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Cherry Brook Health Care Center in Canton, CT.

She was born April 17, 1926 in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Alexander and Michalina (Jasiewicz) Plonowski and had previously lived in Windsor and South Windham.

Helen was a Secretary for UCONN for many years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and spending many summers at Cape Cod. Known by her friends and family for her ‘heart of gold’, and constant smile, Helen was also very committed to her Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish in Windsor and received the Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation for her years of volunteer service.

She is survived by her son Dennis Walsh of Canton (and his partner, Aileen Popham); her grandsons, Alex Walsh of Portsmouth, RI, Bryan Walsh of Granby, and her former daughter-in-law Debbi Oldford of Peterborough, NH. Helen is also survived by nieces Alicia Topping, Kathy Reid, Peggy Hess, Cindy Peverall, and nephews Brian Brennan and Michael Plonowski. She was predeceased by a son, George E. Walsh, Jr.(Chip), her brother Francis (Frank) Plonowski and sister Victoria Brennan.
