Obituary for Curtis Sloan Dudley

Curtis Sloan Dudley, was born on September 3, 1948 in Hartford, CT and passed away on December 3, 2023 in Winter Haven Hospital, FL, at the age of 75.
Curtis was pre-deceased by his parents Ernest A. Dudley and Eleata Sloan Dudley Mitchell and also by his precious Grand Niece Devon L. Blessis.

Curtis is survived by his sister, Patricia “Paddy” Dudley Cairns, his brother-in-law, James D. Cairns, and Florence Montague, his loving partner, “best friend, confidant and a gift in my life,” (as stated by Curt). Curtis also leaves his nieces, Denise L. Martinez, Michele E. Riley, Christine L. Blessis, Maureen L. Spinacci, and a nephew, Michael I. Cairns. Curtis leaves many grand nieces, grand nephews, two great nieces and two great nephews. Curtis also leaves a cousin, B.T. Heineman, his wife, Kelli, and their family.

Curtis graduated from Bloomfield High School, attended the University of Hartford, and went on to work at ADVO-Systems, Inc., Hartford, followed by 23 years at United States Postal Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Following his move to Florida, he worked at Walt Disney World in Orlando. When Curt retired, he worked as a Volunteer at Winter Haven Hospital, which he enjoyed and where he was very much appreciated and well respected.

Curt grew up loving the beach, boating and lighthouses; he was an avid sports fan, loved music, reading and being with his family.

Curt dearly loved his many nieces and nephews and they loved him, especially his wicked sense of humor. When Curt was fit and well, he could get most people around him laughing within a short time.

Curt was treated for prostate cancer more than 25 years ago and enjoyed a cancer-free life for many years. Sadly, it returned and moved rapidly through his body. He fought hard to survive, but his body could take no more.

He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him. Rest in Peace, Dear Curtie!

Curt had a special place in his heart for the University of Hartford. “The Ernest A. Dudley and Eleata S. Dudley Mitchell Endowed Fund” was set up in loving memory of his parents. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Curt’s memory to that Fund may do so by visiting: “University of Hartford - donation link” and then select the option for “In memory of someone special.” Follow the prompts and list the Fund - by name. Your thoughtful gesture will be deeply appreciated by the University community and all those whose lives were touched by Curtis S. Dudley.

Private Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Please visit Curt’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
