Obituary for Harry A. Cooke Jr.

Harry adored his wife Hazel Schuurman Cooke of 63 years; they were inseparable and led the family on remarkable adventures. Family was primary to Harry A. Cooke and he shared his love for adventure with his family and friends, as he traveled 50 states, including Alaska and also traveled in the Caribbeans, Europe and Canada.
He was an avid cyclist, canoeist, hiker, and loved camping. He was a passionate woodworker,

creating so many beautiful projects, including his home in Simsbury, CT and a second home in Whitingham, VT.

He passed these many passions down to his four children, Nancy, Richard, Robert and Dale, along with their spouses, Bill Bunnell, Elaine Cooke, Wendy Cooke and Carol Moore. He enjoyed his five grandchildren Heather and husband Brandon Munson, Jesse and wife Devlin, Jenna and husband Cody Berg, Jason and wife Lindsey, Melissa and husband Adam Freeman and Conner Cooke and seven great grandchildren Isaac, Levi and Zuzu, Ari, Kinley and Laiken and Caleb.

He was stationed on the USS Orion during WW II, on a Navy submarine tender in the Pacific. He was a graduate of Hartford State Technical College with a degree in Mechanical Design. He enjoyed a long career with Kaman Aerospace in Research and Development and then Hamilton Standard Space and Sea Systems working on the space suit and submarine projects.
