Obituary for Thomas Robert Yoczik

Thomas Robert  Yoczik
Thomas Robert Yoczik, 71, of Simsbury, beloved husband of Cynthia (Deming) Yoczik, died Thursday, July 21, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. He was born October 4, 1939 in Norwalk, son of the late Thomas and Esther (Kurimai) Yoczik and had lived in Simsbury for over 52 years. Thomas was a graduate of the Simsbury High School and had attended the University of Connecticut. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Yoczik was a Sheet Metal Design Draftsman and was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local #40 in Rocky Hill. Tom was a member of The First Church of Christ, Simsbury, his Church of 52 years, sang with its Chancel Choir and worked on many boards and committees. Tom loved his country and was proud of his service in the United States Marine Corps. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with his wife Cynthia. His passion was flowers and working around his yard and gardens. He was also an avid collector of over 150 different model fire trucks. Most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren, who will miss him but will hold him in their hearts. Besides his wife Cynthia, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Brett Aston of Hebron, and Carol Labbe of Simsbury; his son-in-law Kevin Gray and his wife Cathy of Simsbury; step-daughter Elisabeth Bullick and her husband Richard of Levittown, PA; nine grandchildren, Kelsey, Justin, Jefferson and Jameson Gray, Bradley, Allison and Amy Aston, Beau Labbe and Penny Bullick; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Paul Ridgeway of Windsor; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Connie Yoczik of East Granby; brother-in-law Carroll Fulks and his wife Page of Williamsburg, VA, sister-in-law, Johnnie Rowland and her husband Guy of Gretna, Va.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Judith Claudette (Fulks) Yoczik and his daughter, Janet Gail Gray. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Sunday, July 24th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be celebrated Monday, July 25th, 11:00 AM at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury with the Reverend Kevin Weikel officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Music Fund at the First Church of Christ at 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070.
